1) Sketched by hand and scanned into the computer


2) Scanned image is outlined in Illustrator. Base colors are done in a separate layer in Illustrator.
The frame is drawn in Illustrator for alignment purposes in Photoshop.


3) In Photoshop, the outline layer goes over the color fill layer, aligned by the frame drawn in Illustrator.
Still looks flat, though, and the rock needs color.


4) The rock is colored. Shading, lighting, and adjustment layers applied to finish the illustration.
